Description
Meet at McAfee Knob Trailhead at 3 pm. We will hike 8 miles total and it should take us around 4-5 hrs. We may be returning in the dark, so headlamps should be brought along. This hike is moderately difficult. If Cascades was hard: this will be too much for you. If Cascades was a cake walk: this will be slightly harder than that for you.
Location
This hike is along a section of the Appalachian Trail just outside of Roanoke. It is a gorgeous hike.
Driving Directions
The parking lot for McAfee Knob Trailhead can easily be found in the map apps and is ~40 mins from Blacksburg.
What You Should Bring
Wear closed-toed sneakers that you feel comfortable walking in. Bring enough water (1L or more) and I recommend trekking poles since they make walking easier. You should definitely bring a headlamp since we may be returning in the dark.
