Description
Meet at Squires lot at 3 and then get to Sharp Top Trailhead by around 4:30 pm. I will give an overview in the parking lot before we start. We will hike 3 miles total with about 1,300' of gain and it should take us around 2 hrs. We may be returning in the dark, so headlamps or flashlights should be brought along. This hike is moderately difficult and can be STEEP. Definitely harder than Cascades but shorter than Dragon's Tooth and McAfee Knob (and prettier).
Location
Sharp Top Mountain is one of the three Peaks of Otter situated along the Blue Ridge Parkway and just outside of Bedford, VA.
Driving Directions
The parking lot for Sharp Top Trail can easily be found in map apps and is ~1 hr 30 mins from Blacksburg. Sheep Creek Rd, Bedford, VA 24523.
What You Should Bring
Wear closed-toed sneakers that you feel comfortable walking in. Bring enough water (1/2L). I highly recommend trekking poles since they make walking easier and this trail is STEEP. You should also bring a headlamp since we definitely will return in the dark. I recommend wearing shorts and breathable clothing. NO JEANS, NO OPEN TOED SHOES, NO SPEAKERS.
