Description
Meet at Squires lot at 3 and then get to Kelly Knob Trailhead by around 3:30 pm. I will give an overview in the gravel lot before we start. We will hike 4 miles total with about 700' of gain and it should take us around 2 hrs. We will return in the dark and headlamps or flashlights are REQUIRED. This hike is moderately difficult and starts with a short climb. Somewhat harder than Cascades but shorter than Dragon's Tooth and McAfee Knob with less elevation gain.
Location
Kelly's Knob is a rocky outcrop along the Appalachian Trail, just outside Newport, VA.
Driving Directions
The parking lot for Kelly's Knob is Rocky Gap Trail and can be found in map apps and is ~30 mins from Blacksburg.
What You Should Bring
Wear closed-toed sneakers that you feel comfortable walking in. Bring enough water (1L). I highly recommend trekking poles since they make walking easier. You should also bring a headlamp since we definitely will return in the dark. I recommend wearing shorts and breathable clothing. NO JEANS, NO OPEN TOED SHOES, NO SPEAKERS.
Pet Instructions/Info
On leash.
