Description
Boy howdy, this is gonna be a big trip! We will meet at 3 am and then drive to the Dragon's Tooth Trailhead. We will then proceed to hike the loop counter clockwise and it will take us a while. I'm expecting about 17-21 hrs of hiking (averaging 2-1.5 mph, with breaks). I think we will be done way past dark. Before signing up for this trip, consider: - Am I in good physical shape? - Am I an experienced enough hiker? - Do I have the right gear (see below)? - Am I free all of April 25th? If you don't know, please reach out and I'll let you know if you're ready. If you've completed dayhikes longer than 15 miles without difficulty, backpacked 10 miles a day easily, or run a half or full marathon, then you are probably physically ready. This will not be impossible and should be a great time!
Location
The VA Triple crown is a 34 mile loop that covers the three vistas: Dragon's Tooth, McAfee Knob, and Tinker Cliffs.
Driving Directions
We will meet at squires and then drive to the trailhead.
What You Should Bring
You will need a small backpack, some water bottles (2L capacity, I have a filter for refills), a headlamp, appropriate footwear, 3-4k cals in snacks, electrolytes, a light fleece layer, caffeine, and trekking poles. Ponchos are a maybe. Don't bring backpacking meals, food that needs cooking, camping gear, open-toed shoes, bluetooth speakers, hammocks, books, very nice cameras, bulk foods, bear spray, and large knives.
